THE QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS BELOW ARE COMPILED FROM THE COMMON INQUIRIES RECEIVED BY THE VILLAGE OF LAC LA BELLE AND THE CULLING ADMINISTRATOR. TO SUBMIT A NEW QUESTION, PLEASE USE THIS FORM.
Where are culling operations taking place?
Bow hunting activities conducted under this organized program by culling permit holders occurs with special permission throughout the Village of Lac La Bell, on land that is owned by the Village, on land that is owned by the Tall Pines Conservancy, in designated areas around the golf courses at The Club at Lac La Belle, and on private property when authorized by the landowners. For the safety and security of the culling permit holders and the public, exact locations of Village-operated elevated tree stands are not disclosed. However, signage around well-traveled points of entry is posted to alert community members that an archer could be working the area. Please note that archers may also be roaming and not in-stand.
Hunting by culling permit holders, as well as the hunting-licensed members of the public, is authorized on public-access land in Waukesha and Jefferson Counties. These activities are not sanctioned by the Village of Lac La Belle; they are regulated by the WI DNR and the same rules must be adhered to by all hunters.
Who may utilize the VLLB-owned elevated tree stands?
These stands are clearly marked as property of the Village of Lac La Belle and their use is controlled by the Culling Administrator. They are not accessible to the public; only culling permit holders may use these stands as authorized by the Culling Administrator.
May I hunt on my own private land?
With a hunting license, you may hunt on your own private land. In the Village of Lac La Belle, you'll need a hunting permit to hunt your property, which you may request from the Village Clerk and you must abide by the Village ordinances as well as WI DNR's rules and regulations. Please note, it may not be legal to hunt on your property depending on the size and location. Use your regular DNR-issued harvest tags that you get with your license, or bonus antlerless harvest authorizations that you purchase from the DNR.
The Culling Administrator would like to capture data on all deer that are harvested in the Village. To help in this effort, you may forward your email confirmation from Go Wild Game Registration to the Culling Administrator when you report your kill or copy/paste the details from the confirmation on this form. This also helps support the success of the program overall, because after there has been a harvest, the zone will be rested for a number of days to encourage the deer movement to return to normal. If you are in need of additional antlerless tags to hunt on your private land, contact the Culling Administrator.
How do I volunteer for the organized culling program?
The roster of archers is full for the zones in which the Village is managing culling. Too much hunting activity in a given area will force the herd to disperse to other areas outside of the Village during the season, reducing the opportunity to harvest an impactful number of deer in the community. Therefore, there are a limited number of Village-owned elevated stands and a restricted group of experienced archers who are cooperating to study the deer movement and apply strategic pressure where their efforts will be the most productive. If you are a property owner who would like to offer your land to the culling program to hunt during the bow hunting season, please submit this form.
What happens to the venison that is harvested?
The meat is either processed and consumed by the archer who made the kill or given to the WI-DNR's Deer Donation Program. As a Village of Lac La Belle community member, if you would like to request a gift of the venison that is harvested locally, please fill out this form.
